This week two of our members Anthony Mendoza and Jordan Hindes were selected to attend the Frank J. Ruck Leadership Institute in Richmond Virginia, where they learned about the Five Pillars of Exemplary Leadership. Along the way, the guys were enriched with SigEps history and practiced Sound Mind Sound Body with hundreds of brothers from around the country.
Jordan’s biggest takeaway was getting to dive deep into exploring his personal leadership styles by utilizing the Student Leadership Practice Inventory assessment. He was able to explore and improve both his natural strengths and weaknesses as a leader. He also enjoyed learning from Buchanan Cup-winning chapters on how to operate at the highest level and plans to bring these lessons back to his chapter.
Anthony took full advantage of the opportunity to meet leading SigEps from all over, learning about how the brothers in his group practice Virtue, Diligence, and Brotherly Love. He plans to utilize the lessons he learned and the network he gathered to propel Purdue SigEp to the top of both the FSCL and SigEp national communities.
This institute stands as a shining example of SigEp’s commitment to fostering exceptional leadership skills within our membership, molding them into the future leaders of tomorrow. We want to especially thank our esteemed alumni whose generous contributions to the education fund made this transformative journey a reality. These funds play a vital role in empowering young SigEp men, propelling our chapter toward unparalleled excellence.
Below is what Anthony Mendoza our VP of SigEp Learning Community had to say about the event:
“What a transformational week!
I was blessed to have the opportunity to attend the 2023 Ruck Leadership Institute in Richmond, Virginia. At the institute, my facilitators David Stollman and John L. Dougherty dove deep into the Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership, teaching me how I can implement these lessons into my life as an undergraduate leader. I learned and grew alongside my brothers through experiential learning and strategic planning in a manner and pace I would never imagine possible.
I was honored to get the chance to meet Grand Presidents Billy Dal Maddalon and Stephen Shanklin, learning invaluable lessons about the vibrant history and values of SigEp along the way.
This program and its results speak for themselves, but I cannot go without thanking my Alumni Volunteer sponsors Michael Ellis and Mark Napier for making this experience possible. Educational funds from Indiana Alpha’s AVC allow our members to take full advantage of the amazing programs Sigma Phi Epsilon (Official) has to offer, and further our pursuit of Virtue, Diligence, and Brotherly Love.” – Anthony Mendoza ‘26
