This past weekend, Indiana Alpha’s brand-new executive board took to Chicago for the annual Carlson Leadership Academy, one of Sigma Phi Epsilon’s premier leadership development programs. Each executive got the opportunity to network with other brothers from different chapters who hold the same roles through individual “tracks” designed for their position within the branch and through a private dinner Friday night with brothers from the Illinois Lambda chapter at Northwestern.
Below is what some execs had to say about the weekend:
“Carlson allowed me to absorb insight from SigEps around the country that I’m excited to bring back to my chapter. The discourse with other Presidents reminded me of why I chose SigEp.” – Alexander Derbyshire, President
“I had a great time at Carlson learning more about recruitment strategies. I collaborated with SigEp brothers from both large and small chapters to see what works and what doesn’t when it comes to recruiting more balanced men to be a part of our fraternity. I’m also grateful for the time I got to spend with the other exec members in our chapter. We grew closer during our time in Chicago, which will help us build each other and the whole chapter up when it comes to leadership.” – Colvin Timmons, BMS Chairman
“I left Carlson with so many ideas on where to take the role of VP Comms. I’ve gotten the chance to meet the Grand Chapter president, I now have all the VPCs in Indiana in my network, and I’ve got a reignited passion for the role.” – John Henry Slater, Vice President of Communications
“Carlson was another opportunity for me to learn from the host of resources SigEp HQ provides to us. I picked up dozens of ideas on how to improve our learning community and got to meet other VP SLCs who I grew with this weekend. Meeting so many SigEps and hearing about how their chapters run renewed my vision for the fraternity and the great future our chapter has.” – Anthony Mendoza, Vice President of SigEp Learning Community
“Carlson was an eye-opener. I picked up valuable lessons from other chapters’ mistakes and experiences and gained a fresh perspective on leadership and financial management. Talking to other VPs of Finance reminded me of why I love being in this role for my chapter. Proud to be a SigEp.” – Aadit Kumar, Vice President of Finance
“I had an amazing time at Carlson. I felt that I not only grew closer to my fellow executives, but I also learned so much about recruitment from our instructors and other VPs of recruitment. I now have a comprehensive plan for how to successively reach and even exceed the recruitment goals for the chapter, as well as resources in the national organization and other chapters to aid me if I need more insight and support along my journey.” – Joshua Mansky, Vice President of Recruitment
