The Indiana Alpha Chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon at Purdue University has entered 2026 with strong momentum and a renewed commitment to building upon the successes of the past year. Since even before officially beginning our terms, the executive board has been hard at work strengthening the structure of the systems already in place within the chapter and planning for new and exciting events.
One of the most exciting milestones this semester was the completion of renovations to the chapter facility. The construction wrapped up just prior to the start of the spring semester, allowing brothers to return from winter break to a beautiful, fully updated home. The refreshed facility has already become a centerpiece of our brotherhood experience and a great point of pride for the chapter. Thus, thank you to everyone involved in making this project a success through your generosity!
Recruitment has also been a major focus for the chapter this semester. This spring, we welcomed and initiated 17 outstanding new members after emphasizing our 365 recruitment initiatives and showcasing the newly renovated house. With these additions, the chapter has now surpassed 90 members, and we have set a goal of surpassing the 100-member mark next semester. Moreover, we were recognized by the National Fraternity Organization with the ‘Talent Power’ Recruitment award at Carlson Leadership Academy this year, and we look forward to continuing to build on that momentum for future cycles.
Personal development continues to be a cornerstone of the SigEp experience through the launch of the “Phi Challenge.” Brothers are encouraged to pursue one to three semester-long goals that strengthen the mind, body, and spirit. These goals range from reading the Bible to further “know thyself,” to setting “sound mind and body” milestones in the gym, to “seeking balance” with new skills such as playing a musical instrument.
Philanthropy has also taken center stage this semester through our inaugural “Queen of Hearts Week,” a philanthropy-focused sweetheart competition. Five sororities participated in fundraising challenges throughout the week to support the JED Foundation and its mission of promoting mental health and suicide prevention. Together, we raised over $8000 (a single-semester record!) for this important cause and crowned a new SigEp Sweetheart.
Finally, I am very proud to announce that Indiana Alpha has been selected by our university partners at the Office of Fraternity, Sorority, and Cooperative Life as the IFC ‘2025 Chapter of the Year!’ This reflects the amazing growth and hard work of our members last year, from recruitment to rechartering, and the IFC recognized that. We are very excited and are using this as motivation to continuously raise the bar so that we continue to win.
Looking ahead, the chapter is excited for several upcoming traditions and events, including our annual formal in Chicago, a housewarming celebration with alumni and community partners on April 11, and our annual Mom’s Day brunch on the 18th. Finally, as the semester continues and Final’s Week approaches, brothers are, as always, focused on maintaining our strong academic performance and once again achieving the highest GPA within Purdue’s IFC community.
